No change to Qld CTP scheme

Brisbane drivers CTP scheme

In June 2023, we wrote about that the Qld government had begun a review of the CTP scheme to see if it was still fit for purpose. This process has taken more than 3 years. The result is there will be no change to the Qld CTP scheme.

What were the proposed changes to the CTP scheme?

As we wrote, there were 3 main options:

  • Scenario 1: Keep it the same
  • Scenario 2: Change the design of the scheme through premium equalisation, random allocation of insurers, multiple licences, and/or insurer ratings.
  • Scenario 3: Transition to public underwriting (no private insurers).

People were encouraged to have their say on the ongoing costs of the scheme, what the motorist pays, and how much competition there is on price.

There were 19 submissions to the review from stakeholder groups and the wider community.

What was the result of the CTP review?

The result was scenario 1: keep it the same.

The Motor Accident Insurance Commission noted the Qld CTP scheme is performing well:

  • Most Queensland motorists pay the lowest CTP premiums in mainland Australia
  • Since October 2025 multipled vehicle classes pay competitive premiums for the first time in over a decade.

Research has found Qld motorists value affordability more than any other factor.

What are CTP premiums in Qld?

As at 1 November 2026, Qld CTP premiums are:

  • QBE – $411.80
  • Allianz – $424.80
  • Suncorp – $427.80
