Did you know you can check the name of your current CTP provider on your vehicle registration notice? Remember, if you want to switch to a new CTP insurer, do this before renewing your registration. Otherwise, your previous insurer will provide CTP cover until the next renewal.

It is simple to go online to change insurer.

No CTP extras in Qld

Under the Qld CTP scheme, drivers at fault may not get as many benefits as other drivers. Insurers in Qld no longer offer a free extra benefit on top of CTP. This was known generally as At-Fault Driver Cover:

  • QBE stopping offering DriverProtect from 25 August 2023
  • Suncorp Insurance no longer offers Driver Protection Cover since 2 August 2023
  • Allianz stopped offering At Fault Driver Protection from 1 July 2023.

Drivers who have a serious accident are now referred to the National Injury Insurance Scheme.

What would you like to do?

1. Who offers CTP insurance in Qld?

Three insurers offer CTP insurance in Qld. They are Allianz, QBE and Suncorp Insurance. Each insurer offers exactly the same CTP coverage. Insurers no longer offer extra coverage on top of CTP for drivers who are at fault in a road accident.

2. Does it matter who I choose for CTP?

No, it does not matter who you choose for CTP. Each insurer must by law offer the same CTP coverage for the same price. If you use the premium calculator, you will see Reasons to select each insurer. You may also consider:

  • Any existing relationship with an insurer
  • Convenience of contacting or paying the insurer.

3. Does Suncorp comprehensive include CTP?

No, comprehensive insurance in Australia does not include CTP. Comprehensive insurance is to cover damage to property only and CTP is to cover people who are injured in a road accident involving your vehicle.
