CTP Insurance NT
CTP Insurance Northern Territory
The Territory Insurance Office (TIO) provides compulsory third party (CTP) insurance in the Northern Territory. TIO is a division of Allianz Australia. The Motor Accidents Compensation (MAC) scheme is a no-fault compulsory third party (CTP) scheme. CTP Insurance NT covers people who are injured or killed in a road accident, including drivers, passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists.
CTP NT is a no-fault scheme, which means that you do not have to prove fault to make a claim. But a driver affected by alcohol or drugs, unlicensed, or involved in reckless conduct may get less compensation.
All motorists registered in the NT pay for the MAC scheme as part of their registration fee.
You cannot choose an insurer in the NT because CTP insurance NT is provided by the TIO only. While the NT government sold the publicly-owned TIO to Allianz in 2014, the government is still the owner of the MAC scheme.
Contact TIO for questions about the NT CTP scheme and information about making a claim. All enquiries are now online or by phone.
