Report phone calls in personal injury compensation scam

If you receive a call from somebody claiming to be a crash investigator acting for Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA), beware. Unfortunately, it’s a scam.

Not ICWA

There has been an increase in these types of calls in WA and throughout Australia. It is known as “claims farming”. For example, the caller first tries to get your personal information. Next, they refer you to a claims or compensation service for their own personal gain.

These calls are nothing to do with ICWA. The ICWA already receives claimant personal details via the Online Crash Reporting Facility and claim documentation.

What to do

Remember, if you receive one of these calls:

  • Verify the number independently or hang up
  • Do not provide any personal information
  • Ask the caller for their name, organisation, website, email and phone number.

Also, if you are in doubt, you can report it as a possible scam to:

or ring 1300 304 054.
